Congratulations to Wesley College staff and students for being recognised as the winner of the Partnership Acceptance Learning Sharing (‘PALS’) Schools Reconciliation Awards 2013 in the Arts category. PALS is an initiative of the Department of Aboriginal Affairs that encourages young people to take a leadership role in strengthening the relationship that exists between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students in their local community.
Wesley College won the award for their Moorditj Mob Cultural Workshops. The workshops involve entire schools in dance performances followed by a round robin style cultural workshop run by the Moorditj Mob students. This year they performed at over 20 schools. Wesley has 20 Indigenous students participating in the project, and have involved over 2000 students in the project.
This is a great initiative and I thank Hon Peter Collier, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, and the Wesley staff for their time, effort and expertise in bringing together students across Western Australia.
