On Tuesday I was grateful to represent the Premier at a McGrath Foundation event celebrating the return of the Cricket Ashes to Australia. It was an excellent opportunity to acknowledge the great work the McGrath Foundation does in Western Australia in supplementing the services available, firstly, to those women who have contracted breast cancer, and secondly, to all women in the community at risk of breast cancer.

The Government of Western Australia is committed to providing a high quality equitable breast cancer screening and comprehensive multidisciplinary breast cancer treatment for Western Australian women.  In early 2015 the new Fiona Stanley Hospital Breast Assessment Clinic will open as an additional facility to improve the timeliness of work up of screen detected abnormalities.

A story well known in Australia, Jane and Glenn McGrath’s much-publicised experience with breast cancer led to the formation of what has become one of Australia’s most respected and recognised charities, the McGrath Foundation.

The McGrath Foundation has done great work in facilitating the placement of nine McGrath nurses in Western Australia. Breast Care Nurses are pivotal in ensuring the emotional wellbeing of women, on their breast cancer diagnosis and treatment journey.

The work initiated by Jane and Glenn McGrath, and now continued by Glenn and supported by many corporations and individuals, is a wonderful legacy not only to Australian women but all Australians.

The event was also attended by Glenn McGrath, Mike Hussey & Tom Moody (pictured).
