City of South Perth awarded a million dollars in Lotterywest funding

The City of South Perth has received a $1 million grant from Lotterywest, which will contribute towards the costs of the new Manning Community Hub development.

Funding was awarded to the City under Lotterywest’s Community Spaces – building and fit out program. The funds will contribute towards the construction of the early years activity spaces and community group premises within the Manning Community Hub.

“The new Manning Community Hub will provide modern, functional and sustainable community facilities increasing accessibility, community participation and usage,” said Mayor Sue Doherty.

“The Manning Community Hub project has strong community support and will provide purpose built facilities for groups and organisations that have been operating on the site for many years, including Moorditj Keila Aboriginal Community Group and the Manning Child Health Clinic.

“Additionally creating a new space for playgroups, the Manning Rippers Football Club, Manning Toy Library and the relocation of the Manning Library.

“The demographics of the Manning community have changed with more families coming into the area. In response to these changes, the community identified the need for a vibrant, integrated ‘village centre’ linking existing shops, services and activities.

“This development will also provide a ‘town square’ space flanked by a café, shops, businesses and recreational areas.”

The total cost of this project is in the vicinity of $16M, with the City of South Perth funding the balance.

Construction of the Manning Community Hub development is scheduled to commence in mid-2015.
