Retirement announced

On 31 October 2019 I announced that I would not be standing for the seat of South Perth at the State Election in March 2021.

Liberal Party State Parliamentary Leader Liza Harvey made the official announcement to a media conference at Parliament House.

Leader Liza Harvey invites me to the microphone after announcing my intention to not contest the seat of South Perth in March 2021.

However, this doesn’t mean I have retired. There is still more than a year to keep representing South Perth and to fulfil my shadow portfolio duties in Racing & Gaming and Sport & Recreation.

The announcement provides the Liberal Party of WA the luxury of time to pre-select the best available candidate to further the work I have undertaken in the seat since 2005, when I took on a similar role after the celebrated career of the late Phil Pendal MLA.

$125,000 in Lotterywest funding for PCYCs

Yesterday I was pleased to attend the Kensington Police and Community Youth Centre (PCYC) while Police Minister Liza Harvey presented president Sue Gordon with a $125,000 Lotterywest grant.

The grant will assist 20 WA PCYC Centres and Blue Light units to buy laptops, office supplies and sporting equipment. It is expected to benefit thousands of young people across the State.

The PCYC is a not-for-profit organisation that provides at-risk youth and young offenders with important recreational and educational activities and programs. Through its strong relationship with WA police, PCYC provides young people with intensive mentoring to help “break the cycle” of offending and re-offending.

I am very supportive of the organisation and hope that this grant provides the PCYCs with the financial support they need to provide such an outstanding service to the local community.
