Yesterday I was pleased to attend the Kensington Police and Community Youth Centre (PCYC) while Police Minister Liza Harvey presented president Sue Gordon with a $125,000 Lotterywest grant.

The grant will assist 20 WA PCYC Centres and Blue Light units to buy laptops, office supplies and sporting equipment. It is expected to benefit thousands of young people across the State.

The PCYC is a not-for-profit organisation that provides at-risk youth and young offenders with important recreational and educational activities and programs. Through its strong relationship with WA police, PCYC provides young people with intensive mentoring to help “break the cycle” of offending and re-offending.

I am very supportive of the organisation and hope that this grant provides the PCYCs with the financial support they need to provide such an outstanding service to the local community.

Grant to support young people with intellectual disabilities

South Perth MLA John McGrath says young people with intellectual disabilities will benefit from a $31,068 Lotterywest grant from the State Government.

Mr McGrath this week presented a cheque to IdentityWA CEO Marina Re at the organisations’s Kensington headquarters.

IdentityWA is a catholic outreach program supporting people with an intellectual disability and their families.

Mr McGrath said, “The purpose of this grant is to contribute towards costs for inclusive school holiday respite camps and day outings for children aged 6 to 18 years with disabilities and their siblings. The funding will cover the period between October 2012 and July 2013.

“It was a privilege to visit Identitywa and to be able to present this financial assistance towards the wonderful work the centre does In maximising the wellbeing, potential and quality of life for these people.”
