Refurbishment of Karawara Community Centre

Karawara Family and Community Centre Launch 2 121220 Karawara Family and Community Centre Launch 3On Friday 7 December 2012 South Perth MLA John McGrath was pleased to officially open the newly refurbished Karawara Family and Community Centre at the launch function on behalf of the Minister for Community Services. The Centre has an impressive track record of providing a range of community services including child care, early education, settlement support services, family counselling and community-based programs.

Lotterywest has also approved a $285,071.00 grant for the upgrade of the Karawara Child Care Centre to create a positive environment to enhance the early childhood development of young children. The state government is pleased to support Gowrie WA, who provide an essential ‘one-stop-shop’ service to the community.

Western Australia is the only state in Australia where profits from lottery games are returned directly back to the community as grants. Since its establishment in 1993, Lotterywest has provided over $43 billion to support Western Australian community organisations. Last financial year Lotterywest delivered a record total of $258.3 million to support the Western Australian communities.

Grant to support young people with intellectual disabilities

South Perth MLA John McGrath says young people with intellectual disabilities will benefit from a $31,068 Lotterywest grant from the State Government.

Mr McGrath this week presented a cheque to IdentityWA CEO Marina Re at the organisations’s Kensington headquarters.

IdentityWA is a catholic outreach program supporting people with an intellectual disability and their families.

Mr McGrath said, “The purpose of this grant is to contribute towards costs for inclusive school holiday respite camps and day outings for children aged 6 to 18 years with disabilities and their siblings. The funding will cover the period between October 2012 and July 2013.

“It was a privilege to visit Identitywa and to be able to present this financial assistance towards the wonderful work the centre does In maximising the wellbeing, potential and quality of life for these people.”
