I was very pleased to visit Princess Margaret Children’s Hospital today, representing the Minister for Health, to present a Lotterywest cheque for $400,000 to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
The funds will go towards the fit-out and technology for the Starlight Express Room at the new Perth Children’s Hospital. The room, including operation for three years, is a $3.8 million project.
Starlight has been operating for 27 years and is the only children’s charity to have permanent presence in all children’s hospitals around Australia. Starlight, who last year supported 146,000 sick and chronically ill children and teenagers across Australia, is now headquartered in the electorate of South Perth.
It was great to visit the Starlight Express Room at PMH, meet two Starlight Captains, and be shown around what is such a family friendly facility that has been used by so many West Australians.
The cheque presentation ceremony was attended by Jayne Graham (State Partnership’s Manager for Starlight), Lorraine Discoll (General Manager at LotteryWest), Paul Andrew (CEO of LotteryWest), Simon Price (Director of Azure Capital and board member of Starlight), Frank Daly (Assistant Chief Executive of the Child and Adolescent Health Service and Perth Children’s Hospital Commissioning) and Tina Chinery (Executive Director of Perth Children’s Hospital).
Lotterywest is committed to building a better Western Australia, and provides a vital source of support for public hospitals, sports, the arts, thousands of non-for-profit communities groups like Starlight. In 2014, Lotterywest raised $283 million to support the Western Australian community. Western Australia is the only State where money raised from Lottery products is distributed back to the community.
