South Perth MLA Mr John McGrath has attacked the Carpenter Governments management of the Southern Suburbs Railway due to the noise burden that has been imposed on local constituents near the new train.
“When a noise and management plan for the rail line was put together it was concluded that reducing the train’s speed from 130kmh to 100kmh through South Perth the noise would be reduced to a more acceptable level.”
“Either the trains are travelling faster than 100kmh or those assessments are not accurate reflections of what is deemed acceptable noise intrusions.”
“The disturbance inflicted from this project is exacerbated by the absence of a train station in South Perth. Local residents are essentially being denied the benefits of the new train and are left only with the detrimental impacts it is having on the amenity of their homes.”
