John McGrath MLA said the Minister Troy Buswell has asked Main Roads to prepare a detailed business case for a project to provide a link from Manning Road onto the Kwinana Freeway southbound.
“I believe it is important to progress plans to enable those people travelling along Manning Road to easily access the Kwinana Freeway southbound via a direct ramp,” Mr McGrath said.
“Funding has been provided in Main Roads’ 2011-2012 budget allocation to enable this important planning development work to proceed as soon as possible.
“I have been campaigning for this on-ramp since 2005 and I am pleased that the Liberal Government is providing this funding to commence the planning work.”
The Budget has also allocated funding for the development of a consolidated bus station at the Canning Bridge Interchange.
“The Government has allocated funding to develop a detailed new concept design for a new bus interchange, which will keep with the overall vision for the precinct,” Mr McGrath said.
“The Government recognises that the current interchange is crowded, and we need to act to ensure that there is adequate passenger capacity in the future.”
Mr McGrath said that the changes would assist in easing traffic congestion on Canning Highway.
“Canning Highway has the potential to be a major transport mode between Canning Bridge and the Perth CBD, but over the years has become increasingly congested,” Mr McGrath said.
“This restructure of the bus port on Canning Bridge will lessen some of the congestion around the Applecross and Como area, and make Canning Highway an efficient way to travel to the airport, to Fremantle, and to many other destinations along the way.”
