As inaugural Patron of the Manning Men’s Shed I was pleased to attend and speak at the official opening this week. I have been fortunate to be involved early on in the project that started three years ago as an idea by Hilary Peters, then secretary of the Manning Senior Citizens Centre.
I am proud to be Patron of a place for men in in my electorate to come together and spend their time post-retirement in a social and productive environment. The Shed will be a place where men can work on meaningful DIY projects, form friendships and get support from other men.
I congratulate the Manning Senior Citizens Centre and the City of South Perth for working together to see this idea become a reality. I also commend Lotterywest, who provided a grant for the Shed’s construction, and other community organisations in my electorate that generously provided funding and support to the Shed, including the Royal Perth Golf Club, City of South Perth RSL Club, Southcare, IGA Preston Street, Rotary Club of Como, Manning Lions Club and South Perth Lions Club. Como Secondary College also allowed a group of volunteers to use the College facilities to work on small projects including the renovation of donated tools and equipment.
I encourage all men in the electorate to get behind the Manning Men’s Shed.
