On Tuesday I was delighted to present Southcare CEO Nicky Howe with a $65,000 Lotterywest grant.
The grant will not only provide a well-needed information and communication technology upgrade, but I am especially pleased that it will also support a project to provide elderly people with IPads.
I believe it is important that our seniors stay in touch with the rapid progress in technology. Becoming adept at using the internet can assist them to keep in contact with family members and friends. It can also help combat loneliness and isolation and provide them with greater independence.
Southcare supports frail, aged adults, needy families and younger people with disabilities in the South East Metropolitan area to remain living as independently as possible in the community. They have played an integral role in our community for the past thirty-two years. I am very supportive of the organisation and I look forward to continuing to work together.
